What is Your Motivation While Speaking?

I have mentioned before that public speaking is just one way to communicate while trying to motivate, influence, and inspire others – that is it is one form of communication for leaders.

Why are some people truly motivational when they lead? I believe that one factor is what is motivating the speaker. Speakers enter a different state when they are dealing with their passion. They surrender their pride and ego because the cause is so important. The speaker in this state is not grandstanding or protecting his/her turf – s/he is simply motivated by the need for leadership and will do what needs to be done to accomplish it.

The next time you are speaking take a moment to check your motivation. Is it to impress the audience, improve your career, or is it to deal with a particular issue that you are passionate about.

Your motivation may be a revelation to you – however better you find out now because your audience will discern it irregardless of whether you know it or not.
